I’m so disappointed The Late Show is getting canceled. For all the righteous reasons, sure, but mostly because I’ve been watching Stephen Colbert for 25 years and he just seems like one of the few truly moral and good famous people.

Feist is one of my all-time favorite artists, and I tuned in just to watch her perform. When she started playing this song, I thought “Surely not” — and I was correct. But what’s better than a surprise appearance from Jarvis Cocker? Stephen Colbert stepping in to do his monologue. In late 2022, I posted on my Medium site that I intended to start blogging again.

Incidentally, that was the last time I posted to my Medium site.

In my defense, I got busy. I spent most of 2023 growing a human and keeping him alive is a major commitment. I did keep a pregnancy journal, which I updated diligently … on paper.

I had a personal website from 1997 or so until the mid-2010s, when it stopped being fun. My job (when I have one, that is — more on that later, I’m sure) is putting words on the internet. Every time I get the desire to build something for myself, my mind goes into strategy mode and I can’t turn it off. When I decided to finally use this domain I’ve owned for four years, I initially installed Drupal — Drupal! for a basic lil’ blog! — because I thought it’d be nice to brush up my skills.

What to expect

Honestly, nothing. This might be the last time I post here.

What I intend

I plan to post at least once a week. Nothing controversial, just what I’m thinking about. Something funny my kid did. Something I noticed on a run. Travel stories. Just blogs like in the olden days, before everything became commodified capital-c Content. If you see it, I hope you enjoy it.
